The Tea Table has been a timeless piece of furniture throughout history, serving as a gathering place for friends and family to enjoy the beloved beverage. Dating back to 1750-90, the origins of this classic table are shrouded in mystery, with its creator remaining unknown. Another tea table from 1740-60 also shares this enigmatic past. In the early 20th century, talented craftsmen like Nicholas Gorid and Isadore Goldberg took inspiration from these antique designs to create their own versions of the Tea Table. In c. 1936, Nicholas Gorid's creation showcased his impeccable craftsmanship and attention to detail. Similarly, Isadore Goldberg's tea table from c. 1939 exuded elegance and sophistication. Bernard Krieger was another skilled artisan who contributed to the legacy of tea tables during this era with his creation in c. 1936. His unique design added a touch of modernity while still honoring traditional aesthetics. Artists have also captured the essence of tea tables through various mediums over time. One such example is "Portrait of Mrs. Joseph Chamberlain, " where she is depicted seated three-quarter length at a beautifully adorned tea-table, showcasing both her refined taste and social status. Elisabeth Troost became an iconic figure in art history thanks to her portrait painted around 1758; she is portrayed sitting gracefully beside a charming tea-table adorned with delicate porcelain cups and saucers. "High Tea, " an oil painting from 1866 on panel by an unknown artist, captures a scene where individuals gather around a grandiose tea-table filled with delectable treats during afternoon teatime—a true celebration of British culture. A pair of George III tea-tables dating back to possibly Irish origin circa 1780 showcases exquisite black & gold Japanned finishes that add opulence and charm to any room they grace.
