"Unveiling the Ancient Techniques of Manufacturing: From Books to Noodles" Step back in time as we explore the fascinating world of "technique de fabrication. " In Ancient Rome, selling and manufacturing books was a thriving industry. A beautifully colored engraving from 1866 takes us into this bustling trade. Moving forward, we find ourselves in a satin workshop where an intricate process unfolds. The printed canvas is coated with a mixture of wax and starch before being placed on a hot grille. Suspended from the ceiling joists, it is then lustreed using a glass wheel enchassee on a yard. Every detail meticulously attended to by skilled craftsmen. In an engraving workshop, night falls but work continues under watchful eyes. The boss and his son inspect the ongoing projects while two workers warm themselves by a brazier. On one side, an engraver sharpens his tools on a wheel molded by pedal power – dedication evident at every turn. Next, we enter the pinching workshop where indigo blue is applied to canvas through brushing techniques. Two foremen observe intently as a worker fills her pot with blue dye - precision being paramount for each stroke that brings life to fabric. Venturing further east, we witness stages of paper making in Shanghai's village workshop during 1874-1875. An engraving by Y. Pranishnikoff captures this artistry while illustrating Doctor Piassetzky's story "Voyage en Chine. " Imagination meets reality within these pages. From paper to barrels; filling larriques becomes our focus next. An author's own engraving showcases this task vividly as part of P. Kauffmann's tale "Dans la foret d'Arcachon. " Each barrel filled with care and purpose - craftsmanship intertwined with nature itself. Journeying across borders now leads us to Mr. Collignons factory near Isfahan (Iran), where opium for smoking is manufactured.
