"The Graphic: A Glimpse into the Past" Step back in time and immerse yourself in the captivating world of "The Graphic. " This collection of historical snapshots takes us on a journey through various moments in the late 19th century. We begin with the grand opening of The New Medical Schools at Guys Hospital, graced by none other than the esteemed Prince of Wales. In a black and white photo, we witness this momentous occasion that marked advancements in medical education. Moving on, we catch a glimpse of Bournemouth as it was visited by royalty. From atop East Cliff, we marvel at the breathtaking view that enchanted both locals and visitors alike back in 1890. Transporting us to Victorian summers is Randolph Caldecott's delightful artwork. Scenes from this era come alive as we explore leisurely activities enjoyed during those warm days over a century ago. An antique engraving then invites us to soar above Cairo, revealing an enchanting birds-eye view of this ancient city steeped in history and mystery. Shifting gears to entertainment, lithographs depict characters from "Sinbad the Sailor, " bringing to life this beloved pantomime performed at Surrey Theatre. The colorful illustrations transport us into Sinbad's adventurous world filled with mythical creatures and daring escapades. Inventor extraordinaire Thomas Edison makes an appearance next - his genius forever shaping our modern world with groundbreaking inventions that continue to impact our lives today. A lithograph introduces Mr Frederick Locker-Lampson, capturing his essence as a prominent figure whose influence extended beyond his time through literature and social connections. Taking flight once again but closer to home, London reveals itself from above through a hand-colored engraving showcasing its bustling streets seen from a balloon ride - an awe-inspiring sight for those fortunate enough to experience it firsthand. From there, we travel across borders to Ireland where an Irish Pig Fair unfolds before our eyes.
