"The Righteous Rebel: Thomas Becket, Saint and Martyr" Thomas Becket's life was marked by controversy and tragedy. Once a close friend and advisor to King Henry II of England, he became Archbishop of Canterbury in 1162. However, his commitment to justice and reform led him into conflict with the king. After years of tension, four knights loyal to the monarch murdered Thomas on December 29, 1170, at Canterbury Cathedral. This brutal act sparked widespread outrage and Becket's canonization as a saint just two years later. Today, he is revered for his unwavering dedication to God and his refusal to compromise in the face of adversity. As Saint Thomas Becket, he serves as a powerful symbol of courage and conviction, inspiring generations with his story of martyrdom and sainthood. His legacy continues to shape Christian history and remind us that even in the darkest moments, faith can triumph over fear.
