Tony Jannus was a pioneering aviator who made history as the pilot of the world's first scheduled commercial airline flight. Born in 1889, Jannus had a passion for flying from a young age and went on to become one of the most respected pilots of his time. In 1914, Jannus flew the inaugural flight of the St. Petersburg-Tampa Airboat Line, carrying passengers across Tampa Bay in a Benoist XIV biplane. This groundbreaking journey marked the beginning of commercial aviation and revolutionized how people traveled. Jannus continued to push boundaries in aviation, setting records for altitude and distance flown. He also served as an instructor during World War I, training new pilots for combat. Tragically, Tony Jannus died in a plane crash at just 31 years old, but his legacy lives on as a pioneer in aviation history. His contributions to the industry paved the way for modern air travel and inspired countless others to take to the skies.
