The tympanum, a fascinating cricket hearing organ, has been depicted in various forms of art and architecture throughout history. In the Czech Republic's St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague, the 14th-century Catalan-style tympanum on the west facade showcases Sveta Bhairava intricately carved out of wood. Another notable example is Gislebertus' "Tympanum of the Last Judgment" on the West Portal of Saint-Lazare Cathedral in France, displaying his mastery of Gothic art. Moving forward to more modern times, Alan John Ainsworth's artwork can be found at 12 Avenue Jef Lambeaux in Brussels, Belgium. His creation from 1898 beautifully captures a contemporary interpretation of a tympanum. Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris also boasts an impressive Gothic-style tympanum featuring an archangel on its facade. Similarly, at Santa Maria de Regla Cathedral lies another exquisite example that showcases intricate details within its tympanum. Even Norman doorways have embraced this artistic element as seen through a62_02821's portrayal. The Saint-Theobald collegiate church in Thann and Church of Saint Paul in NAmes both feature stunning front portal entrances adorned with striking tympanums. Lastly, capturing a different perspective altogether is a black and white photo showcasing Milan's Cathedral square view where one can appreciate the grandeur and architectural beauty surrounding these magnificent structures.
