"Exploring the World through Underwood & Underwood: From Egypt to Ireland, USA to Italy" Step back in time and witness the wonders of the world captured by Underwood & Underwood. In 1905, their lens transported us high above Philae Island in Egypt, offering a breathtaking view of its majestic temples. Meanwhile, in County Antrim, Ireland, we find ourselves enchanted by "The Wishing Chair" at Giants Causeway in 1887. But it's not just distant lands that caught their attention; they also trained their lenses on local marvels. Journeying to Washington's White River Valley, we witness vineyards being nurtured with care amidst the Rich Hop District. And who could forget St Peter's Basilica in Rome? The great altar with its baldachin stands as a testament to beauty and grandeur. Yet Underwood & Underwood didn't limit themselves to landscapes alone; they documented history unfolding before their eyes. From South Carolina's rice rafts captured in 1895 to colored soldiers returning from France after covering themselves with glory – each image tells a powerful story. Education was another focus for this talented duo. At Booker Washington School in Tuskegee, Alabama, girls pose proudly while Mrs. McKinley awaits her carriage nearby. Their dedication to capturing significant moments extended even beyond our planet as they introduced us to "The Wonderful Universe Explorer, " showcasing Lick Observatory's remarkable telescope. Traveling further into modern Babylon – London – Piccadilly Circus comes alive before our eyes thanks to these visionary photographers' work spanning several decades from the 1850s-1910s. And let us not overlook their impressive collection of stereograph views that transport us through time and space: Yosemite Valley housed within an original publisher's box and Belgium glimpsed through three captivating images created by Bert Underwood himself. Finally, no exploration would be complete without a visit to London's iconic Houses of Parliament, immortalized in five stunning stereograph views.
