In 1918, they were hailed as 'First to Fight, ' as captured in a posed photograph that showcases their unwavering spirit. The U. S. Even during times of war, women have played an integral role in the Marine Corps. Corporal Essie Lucas and Jean Ayers proudly represented Women Marines in 1943, breaking barriers with their dedication and service.
