Antarctic 100 Memorial, Waterfront Park, Cardiff, Wales. Commissioned by the Captain Scott Society to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Age of Antarctic Discovery, this memorial depicting Captain Scott man-hauling his sledge was created by Cardiff sculptor Jonathan Williams. It was unveiled by the Princess Royal in 2003. The location is close to where Scotts ship, the Terra Nova, set sail from at the outset of the fateful expedition on 15th June 1910. In the background is the visitor centre designed by architect William Alsop to resemble a giant telescope offering a panoramic view across Cardiff Bay. It is known locally as the Tube
