This engraving, titled 'Antelope-Hunting in India - Antelopes driven from Cover' dates back to 1858, taken from sketches by Captain W.R. Goodall of the Military Train. The scene portrays a thrilling moment in the wilderness of India, where some men have disturbed a pair of antelopes in a cultivated ground. These antelopes, often seen in the fields at night to feed, are startled and make a hasty escape, leaving the hunters in pursuit. The engraving is a masterpiece of 19th-century art, showcasing the rich details of the Indian landscape. The palm trees and trees in the background add to the lush greenery, while the men on horseback and their hunting dogs are depicted with remarkable precision. The dogs in the image are portraits of some fine Australian kangaroo dogs, a testament to the global reach of the British Empire. The hunters, dressed in their riding gear, are seen brandishing whips and riding their horses in hot pursuit of the antelopes. The engraving captures the raw energy and excitement of the hunt, as well as the beauty and power of the animals in their natural habitat. This image was published in the 'Illustrated London News', a leading British newspaper of the time, and is a fascinating glimpse into the past.
