The Apocalypse: An Innumerable Multitude Which Stand before the Throne, 1546-1556
The Apocalypse: An Innumerable Multitude Which Stand before the Throne, 1546-1556. This print is part of a bound volume of works illustrating the a narrative of the Apocalypse, taken from the Revelation of Saint John in the Bible. The 23 engravings in the series occupied the artist for a number of years and represent his greatest artistic achievement. The museums volume is one of only seven known complete sets. Jean Duvet was one of the first major printmakers in France and one of the most original artists of the 1500s. Although he worked mostly in the provincial city of Langres, he became aware of Italian art through the circulation of prints--notably those of Marcantonio Raimondi. His solidly modeled human figures reflect the influence of the Italian High Renaissance. Duvet, however, developed an idiosyncratic, highly artificial style with crowded compositions that ignore rational space in favor of ornamental surface patterns

The Apocalypse - An Innumerable Multitude Which Stand before the Throne, 1546-1556
EDITORS COMMENTS
is a captivating print that showcases Jean Duvet's extraordinary talent and his unique artistic style. This print is part of a rare bound volume containing 23 engravings illustrating the narrative of the Apocalypse from the Book of Revelation in the Bible. Jean Duvet, one of France's early prominent printmakers, dedicated several years to create this remarkable series, which is considered his greatest artistic achievement. The museums' possession of one of only seven complete sets speaks to its significance and rarity. Duvet's exposure to Italian art through circulated prints, particularly those by Marcantonio Raimondi, influenced his work. His mastery in solidly modeling human figures reflects the impact of the Italian High Renaissance. However, it is Duvet's idiosyncratic approach that truly sets him apart - he developed a highly artificial style characterized by crowded compositions that disregard rational space in favor of ornamental surface patterns. This print captures an awe-inspiring scene from "The Apocalypse" depicting an innumerable multitude standing before the throne. It invites viewers into a world where biblical prophecy comes alive through Duvet's intricate details and imaginative vision. Heritage Art/Heritage Images has preserved this exceptional artwork for generations to appreciate and admire. Through this photo print, we can marvel at Jean Duvet's genius as he merges religious symbolism with his own distinct artistic expression.
