EDITORS COMMENTS
The print captures the remarkable bravery and courage of Captain MacDougall, DSO, and Cadet Mullin, two Canadian VCs during World War I. Both men displayed extraordinary valor in the face of adversity, earning them their prestigious Victoria Cross medals. Captain Thain Wendell MacDowell, a member of the 38th (Ottawa) Battalion, demonstrated his unwavering heroism at the Battle of Vimy Ridge in 1917. Prior to this feat, he had already been recognized with the Distinguished Service Order for his exceptional service at the Somme in the previous year. Cadet George Harry Mullin served alongside Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Regiment. He exhibited immense bravery during the Battle of Passchendaele by single-handedly capturing a German pillbox. For this act of gallantry, he was awarded both the Military Medal and Victoria Cross. This black and white portrait showcases these war heroes standing tall in their military uniforms and headgear. The monochrome effect adds an air of solemnity to their courageous presence. The image serves as a poignant reminder not only of their individual acts but also pays tribute to all those who fought valiantly during World War I. Created by Realistic Travels Publishers through stereoscopic photography techniques popularized during that era, this print immortalizes these brave men's contributions to Canada's history. It stands as a testament to their selflessness and sacrifice for country and freedom.
