The Court at Buckingham Palace on Saturday last: arrival of the foreign ambassadors, 1864. Creator: Unknown

The Court at Buckingham Palace on Saturday last: arrival of the foreign ambassadors, 1864. 'As a memorial of the occasion, last Saturday, when our Queen, to the gratification of all her people, returned, in a manner, to public life by holding a Court at Buckingham Palace for the first time since her widowhood began, we have engraved a sketch of the arrival of the Corps Diplomatique at the gates of the palace. It is unnecessary that we should make any further remark upon a scene which is so familiar to Londoners during the accustomed season for the visits of her Majesty to this city. We can but express our sincere congratulations, and hope that the Queen, having taken this step, will recover her former health and spirits'. In 1861, Albert, Prince Consort, died at the age of 42 after being diagnosed with typhoid fever. The Queen was devastated, and wore mourning dress for the rest of her life. From "Illustrated London News", 1864

EDITORS COMMENTS
**A Royal Rebirth: Ambassadors Arrive at Buckingham Palace** Saturday last, marked a significant milestone in Queen Victoria's reign as she re-emerged into public life with an official Court at Buckingham Palace. The occasion was met with widespread jubilation and celebration among the British people, who had been eagerly awaiting her return to royal duties since the passing of Prince Albert in 1861. This historic moment is captured beautifully in this photograph print, which shows the arrival of foreign ambassadors at the gates of Buckingham Palace on that fateful day. The scene is one of pomp and ceremony, with dignitaries from around the world gathered together to pay their respects to Her Majesty. As they alight from their carriages and make their way into the palace, it's clear that this marks a new chapter in Queen Victoria's reign - one marked by renewed energy, vitality, and purpose. The photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the Queen's remarkable resilience in the face of personal tragedy. Having worn mourning dress for over three years following Prince Albert's untimely death from typhoid fever at just 42 years old, her Majesty has finally begun to put aside her grief and re-engage with the world around her. This photograph print is a treasured snapshot of that momentous day, when Queen Victoria reaffirmed her commitment to duty and public service. It stands as a testament to the enduring power of hope, renewal, and determination in the face of adversity.
