The Three Graces, 1872. Creator: Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux
The Three Graces, 1872. The Graces, often three in number, were goddesses who represented such qualities as charm, beauty, and creativity. This small bronze is based on a monumental sculpture Carpeaux designed for the exterior of the Palais Garnier, home of the Paris Opera. The bolts on the figures' limbs indicate that this was a bronze caster's model, which could be assembled to produce multiple versions of the original. Such models were not intended for display and this one has a roughly finished surface that bears the artist's tool marks

EDITORS COMMENTS
**The Eternal Charm of The Three Graces**
In this exquisite print from 1872, French sculptor Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux brings to life the timeless beauty and elegance of The Three Graces. Inspired by Greek mythology, these goddesses personify charm, beauty, and creativity - qualities that have captivated human imagination for centuries.
This bronze model is a masterclass in subtlety and nuance. With their arms raised in joyful abandon, the three figures seem to dance across the page, their bodies fluidly curved as if frozen in mid-movement. The rough-hewn surface of the print adds an air of authenticity, revealing Carpeaux's skillful use of texture and light.
Commissioned for the exterior of Paris' iconic Palais Garnier (home to the Opera), this sculpture was meant to be a monumental work - but it is here, in this intimate print, that we can truly appreciate its beauty. The Three Graces has become an enduring symbol of French artistry and cultural heritage, inviting us to revel in their timeless allure.
