Grand Military Steeplechase in the Crimea, 1856. Off duty during the Crimean War: British soldiers make their own amusement. We have to thank a Correspondent (an officer of the 17th Regiment) in the Camp, Sebastopol, for the accompanying Sketch of the Grand Military Steeplechase, which took place on the 3rd of December last, and afforded capital sport. The race represented is the first of the "Grand International Steeplechase, " which was won, in good style, by Captain Smith's "Master-Roll". From "Illustrated London News", 1856
