Great Exhibition of 1851 - Prize Medals (£50 each) - No. 68. - M. Gayrard, 1850. Her Majesty's Commissioners for promoting the Exhibition of 1851 give notice, that, having decided on giving three bronze medals, of different sizes and designs, as prizes to exhibitors, and having, by public advertisement...invited the artists of all countries to compete for the designs for the reverses of such medals, announcing...their intention to give a reward of £100 for each of the three designs which should be accepted, and a reward of £50 for each of the best three designs that should not be accepted, and reserving..the right of making such arrangements for executing the successful designs as may appear to them to be the best; and a number of designs, amounting to 129, having been sent...which are now being exhibited at the rooms of the Society of Arts, John-street, Adelphi'.
