EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the Headland Hotel and Golf Links in Newquay, Cornwall, circa 1910. Designed by renowned Cornish architect Silvanus Trevail, this grand hotel opened its doors in June 1900. The Headland Hotel holds a significant place in history as it served as a refuge for Edward, Prince of Wales, and his brother Prince Albert when they fell ill with measles and mumps while studying at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth. Nestled along the stunning coastline of Cornwall, this picturesque hotel offers breathtaking views of the sea and surrounding landscape. Its proximity to the coast makes it an ideal destination for those seeking both relaxation and adventure. The adjacent golf course adds to its allure, providing visitors with an opportunity to indulge in their favorite sport amidst nature's beauty. Interestingly, this iconic establishment also played a role on the silver screen. It was chosen as the setting for an adaptation of Roald Dahl's beloved novel "The Witches" and temporarily renamed Hotel Excelsior during filming in 1990. With its rich history spanning over a century, this print captures not only a moment frozen in time but also reflects the enduring charm that has made the Headland Hotel a cherished landmark on England's coastal scenery.
