EDITORS COMMENTS
In this historic photograph captured by renowned photography studio Harris & Ewing in 1912, three distinguished political figures are seen in a formal setting. From left to right, we have Governor John Alden Dix of New York, his successor, William Sulzer, and Governor John K. Tener of Pennsylvania. John Alden Dix, a prominent lawyer, served as the 38th Governor of New York from 1910 to 1912. His tenure was marked by his efforts to improve the state's infrastructure and education system. After leaving office, Dix continued his legal practice and served in the U.S. Congress. William Sulzer, the man in the middle, took over as the Governor of New York following Dix's departure. At just 39 years old, Sulzer was the youngest person to be elected to the position. His time in office was marked by controversy, as he was impeached and removed from office due to allegations of corruption. John K. Tener, the Governor of Pennsylvania, is seen on the right side of the photograph. Tener was a Major League Baseball player and executive before entering politics. He served as Pennsylvania's Governor from 1915 to 1919. The trio is dressed in formal attire, with Dix and Tener wearing bowler hats. The photograph is a testament to the political landscape of the early 20th century in the United States and the diverse backgrounds of those who held positions of power. This image is part of the Harris & Ewing Collection at the Library of Congress and is a valuable historical record of these three notable political figures.
