EDITORS COMMENTS
This 17th century oil on canvas painting depicts Kristina Augusta Wasa, also known as Queen Christina of Sweden (1626-1689). The portrait, of unknown origin and artist, showcases the regal queen in an elegant riding scene, dressed in a richly adorned red velvet gown and fur-trimmed cloak. She rides a prancing white horse, her hands holding the reins with a confident and poised demeanor. Accompanying her are a falcon and two dogs, symbols of her love for the hunt and the natural world. The queen's regal bearing and the vibrant colors of the painting transport us back to the Baroque era, a time of opulence and grandeur. Queen Christina, the first woman to rule Sweden alone, was known for her intelligence, strong will, and love for the arts and sciences. This painting, now housed in the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, Sweden, is a testament to her legacy and the rich heritage of Swedish monarchy.
