EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures a significant moment during the First World War in 1916, as French General Paul Adolphe Le Blois and Russian General Mikhail Konstantinovitch Dideriks arrive in Monastir, Macedonia. The allies, represented by these two generals, were the first to enter the city during the Monastir Offensive, which took place on the Salonika Front. The photograph shows the generals standing next to each other, with their military cars parked on the side of the road. General Le Blois, a Frenchman, is seen wearing a military uniform with several medals, while General Dideriks, a Russian, is dressed similarly. The arrival of the allied forces marked a turning point in the campaign, as they were able to secure a strategic position and gain momentum against the Central Powers. The photograph, titled 'Les allies a Monastir; Le general francais Le Blois et le general russe Dideriks, dont les troupes sont entrees les premieres a Monastir' was published in the French magazine 'L'Illustration' in the issue CXLVIII, under the section 'La Guerre Juillet, Aout, Septembre, Octobre, Novembre, Decembre 1916'. The image is a testament to the unity and cooperation between the allied powers during the war effort.
