EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a stunning collection of wedding gifts presented to Alexandra of Denmark in 1863. Crafted by the talented artist Robert Dudley, these exquisite pieces include a necklace, earrings, and bracelets that symbolize the opulence and grandeur of the occasion. The Corporation of The City of London graciously offered the first set consisting of a magnificent necklace and matching earrings. The Ladies of Liverpool bestowed upon her an elegant cross pendant with a delicate necklace, while the Ladies of Leeds and Manchester each gifted her with beautiful bracelets. These precious treasures were given to Alexandra on her momentous marriage to Edward VII, who would later become King Edward VII. Their union took place at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle on March 10th, 1863. This photograph is taken from A Memorial of the Marriage by W. H Russell, published in London in 1863. The image captures every intricate detail and radiance emanating from these royal jewels - diamonds sparkling brightly alongside lustrous pearls. It serves as a testament to both British craftsmanship and the enduring legacy of this historic event. As we admire this close-up studio shot preserved through lithography by The Print Collector, we are transported back to the elegance and splendor that surrounded Princess Alexandra during this significant chapter in British history.
