New townhall of Adelaide, South Australia, 1864. Engraving from a photograph '...by Mr. F. S. Crawford, manager of the Adelaide Photographic Company's establishment...The Albert Tower, which rises in the centre of this edifice, 145 ft. from the ground, is intended to commemorate the late Prince Consort. The facade is adorned with a colonnade, and divided into two portions, one above the other; the lower portion comprising five arches supported upon rusticated piers; and the upper portion consisting of a like number of openings springing from double Corinthian columns, surmounted by a cornice and pierced parapet. To the left of the entrance-hall are the rooms designed for the telegraph department; and to the right, the Exchange, and the grand staircase leading into the hall above...The architects of the whole building are Messrs. Wright and Woods, of Adelaide; the contractors, Messrs. English and Brown. The total cost is about £20,000'. From "Illustrated London News", 1864
