Noonday Shelter, 1857. Middle Eastern scene. Here we come upon a wild son of the desert, who, together with his camel, is luxuriating in the shade afforded by the hut and the palm-tree. Enveloped in his loose meshlah (cloak), he avails himself of the favourable opportunity offered for airing his dubiously-washed wearing apparel, which the good woman of the house has washed for him and hung out to dry on the roof of the house.
