The O2 Arena from Greenwich Park, London, 2009
The O2 Arena from Greenwich Park, London, 2009. Designed by Richard Rogers, the Millennium Dome was built to house an exhibition commemorating the arrival of the third millennium. The largest single-roofed structure in the world, the Dome is 365 metres in diameter. The project attracted controversy regarding its cost, the nature of the exhibits it contained for the year it was open as well as the difficulties and expense of disposing of the building after its closure. In 2005 it was announced that the Dome was to become a venue for music concerts and sports events under a scheme sponsored by the telecommunications company O2. It reopened in this form in 2007

EDITORS COMMENTS
The O2 Arena from Greenwich Park, London, 2009. This print captures the iconic O2 Arena in all its grandeur against the picturesque backdrop of Greenwich Park. Designed by renowned architect Richard Rogers, this architectural marvel was originally built as the Millennium Dome to commemorate the arrival of the third millennium. With a staggering diameter of 365 meters, it holds the distinction of being the largest single-roofed structure in the world. However, its journey has not been without controversy. The Dome faced criticism for its cost and exhibits during its initial year and posed challenges when it came to disposal after closure. In 2005, a visionary scheme sponsored by telecommunications company O2 transformed this monumental dome into a vibrant venue for music concerts and sports events. Reopening in 2007 with renewed purpose, it became an epicenter of entertainment that continues to captivate audiences till today. This photograph beautifully encapsulates both history and modernity - a testament to Britain's rich cultural heritage. It showcases how architecture can evolve over time while still preserving its original essence. As we gaze upon this image, we are reminded of London's dynamic spirit and enduring commitment to providing exceptional venues for artistic expression.
