Paris Fashions for the New Year, 1854. Creator: Unknown
Paris Fashions for the New Year, 1854. Lace Cap en point d'Alencon, with groups of flowers on each side; sometimes, instead of these groups, the flowers are placed in a crown, beginning at the middle of the head, going on increasing on the cheeks, and terminating by water-flowers with long pendent sprigs. The latter flowers are more especially worn with open ball-dresses. Robe de satin turc, with basques, ornamented with a mossy fringe, finishing in front of the corsage, and forming a bretelle. Fichu and sleeves of lace, similar to the bonnet; the inside of the sleeve is trimmed with a double row of fringe to match'. From "Illustrated London News", 1854

EDITORS COMMENTS
Step into the elegant world of Parisian fashion in the year 1854, as depicted in this image from the pages of the Illustrated London News. The enchanting print showcases two stunning outfits that defined the fashionable women of the time. The first ensemble features a lace cap en point d'Alencon, adorned with intricate groups of flowers on each side. This elegant headpiece was often paired with open ball-dresses, as seen in the accompanying illustration. The second outfit showcases a robe de satin turc, complete with basques and a mossy fringe that finishes in front of the corset, creating a beautiful bretelle. The fichu and lace sleeves of the robe mirror the design of the bonnet, adding an exquisite touch to the overall look. The inside of the sleeve is trimmed with a double row of fringe to match the cap, creating a harmonious and cohesive appearance. The flounced skirt of the robe adds a playful and feminine touch, reflecting the whimsical nature of Victorian fashion. This stunning representation of Parisian fashion from the 19th century is a testament to the timeless allure and elegance of the era. The Illustrated London News, a prominent British newspaper at the time, captured the essence of the fashionable world and brought it to the masses. This engraving, from their archives, offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of Parisian fashion during the New Year of 1854. The intricate details of the lace, the delicate flounces, and the elegant silhouettes all come together to create a captivating and unforgettable image.
