Piazza di Spagna - Rome, 1850. Creator: Unknown
Piazza di Spagna - Rome, 1850. The Piazza di Spagna is the grand head-quarters of the English and foreign residents of fashion. The houses are lofty and of good construction, and in the centre of the area is the Fontana della Barcaccia. The piazza is named from the Spanish embassy, which is situated there. The celebrated college of the Propaganda also bounds a portion of its limits: its grand feature, however, is the noble flight of steps on its eastern side communicating with the public promenade on the Pincian Hill, where all the fashionable world of Rome is to be met in crowds every evening, for two or three hours before sunset'.
