The Regalia. - 5, c1911. Creator: Unknown
The Regalia. - 5, c1911. 1. Salt-spoon; 2. and 3. State Salt-cellars; 4. Sacramental Flagon; 5. State Salt-cellar'. The Golden Salt-cellar of State [is] of pure gold, richly adorned with jewels, and grotesque figures in chased-work. Its form is castellated, and it has hence been called a "model of the White Tower", to which, however, it bears a very slight resemblance: the receptacles for the salt are formed by the removal of the tops of the turrets'. From "The Portrait Book of Our Kings and Queens 1066-1911", edited by T. Leman Hare. [T. C. & E. C. Jack, London & Edinburgh]

The Regalia. - 5
EDITORS COMMENTS
is an intriguing photograph print from the early 1910s, showcasing a collection of historic British royal tableware, specifically five exquisite salt-related items from the coronation regalia. The creator of the image remains unknown, but it was published in T. Leman Hare's "The Portrait Book of Our Kings and Queens 1066-1911." The first item in the photograph is a salt-spoon, followed by two state salt-cellars and a sacramental flagon. The most striking piece is the fifth item, the Golden Salt-cellar of State, which is a magnificent, golden artifact adorned with jewels and intricate chased-work. Its castellated form has earned it the nickname "a model of the White Tower," although the resemblance is quite minimal. The salt receptacles are formed by the removal of the tops of the turrets. This collection of royal tableware is a testament to the rich history and tradition of British coronations. The items, which have been passed down through the centuries, are a symbol of the grandeur and pageantry associated with the monarchy. The photograph print offers a glimpse into the past, allowing us to appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of these historic objects. The photograph is a valuable addition to any collection focused on British history, royalty, or tableware. It is a reminder of the importance of preserving and celebrating our cultural heritage, and the role that traditions continue to play in shaping our identity. The unknown creator of this photograph has left us with an enduring image that continues to captivate and inspire.
