The Royal Visit to India: the Prince of Wales and the Governor of Goa on their way to the cathedral at old Goa, from a sketch by an officer of the Serapis, 1875, (1876). The future King Edward VII and Jo£o Tavares de Almeida, Governor of Goa, (part of Portuguese India), ...in a palanquin being carried to the cathedral. On the left is the native band that greeted him, the bandmaster playing a trumpet and big drum at the same time. The Prince wore undress Field Marshal's uniform. On each side walked one of the Prince's equerries and one of the Governor's aides-de-camp'. Between October 1875 and May 1876, the Prince visited more than 21 towns and cities across parts of modern-day India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Nepal.
