This stunning engraving, created by the renowned Dutch artist Hendrik Goltzius in the late 16th century, depicts Saint John the Evangelist in deep contemplation. The image is taken from Goltzius' series, "Christ, the Twelve Apostles and Paul." Saint John is shown seated, dressed in the robes of a bishop, with a chalice or goblet in his hand. The saint gazes upwards, lost in thought, as if in the midst of a divine revelation. The intricate details of the engraving are truly remarkable, from the folds of Saint John's robes to the delicate lines of his facial features.
