Last scene of "The Enchanted Isle" at Drury Lane Theatre, 1860. London stage performance...for the benefit of the widow and children of the late Mr. Robert B. Brough...[showing] Mr. Francis as Baccastoppa, Mr. Hollingshed as Smuttifaccio, Mr. Talfourd as Caliban, Mr. Buckingham as Prospero, Mr. Cruikshank as Alonzo, Mr. Angell as Gonsalvo, Mrs. Mellon as Ferdinand, and Miss Stirling as Miranda. The fairies were draughted from the Princess rifle corps, and the lords, sailors, &c. were composed of the gentlemen of the Savage Club. We believe that their impersonations will be readily recognised, and we hope that their efforts and their effigies will tend still more to augment the account opened at Messrs. Coutts and Co.'s in favour of the deceased author's family'. From "Illustrated London News", 1860

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the last scene of the play "The Enchanted Isle" at the Drury Lane Theatre in London, 1860. The scene features an ensemble cast of prominent actors of the time, including Francis as Baccastoppa, Hollingshed as Smuttifaccio, Talfourd as Caliban, Buckingham as Prospero, Cruikshank as Alonzo, Angell as Gonsalvo, Mellon as Ferdinand, and Stirling as Miranda. The fairies in the scene were drawn from the Princess' Rifle Corps, adding an air of authenticity and excitement to the production. The lords, sailors, and other supporting characters were composed of the gentlemen of the Savage Club, making this a truly collaborative and community-driven performance. The production was held for the benefit of the widow and children of the late Robert B. Brough, the author of "The Enchanted Isle." The proceeds of the show were being collected at Messrs. Coutts and Co.'s in support of the deceased author's family. The actors' impersonations were hoped to not only entertain the audience but also contribute to the growing fund for the author's loved ones. This photograph is a testament to the power of the stage to bring people together in times of need and to celebrate the art of theatre.
