EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the pioneering spirit of Mrs. de Beauvoir Stocks, the second British woman pilot of her time. In 1911, she made history by becoming one of the few women to receive a Royal Aero Club aviators license. The image showcases her in all her glory, seated confidently in her Farman biplane. Mrs. de Beauvoir Stocks was a true trailblazer, defying societal norms and breaking barriers in the male-dominated field of aviation. Her determination and passion for flight propelled her into the skies, making her an inspiration for generations to come. However, tragedy struck when a devastating crash at Hendon in 1913 left Mrs. de Beauvoir Stocks unconscious in hospital for six long weeks. This unfortunate incident marked the end of her flying career but did not diminish her legacy as an aviation pioneer. The monochrome portrait exudes elegance and strength as it immortalizes this remarkable lady aviator from early 20th century Britain. The artist behind this Flight Photo has masterfully captured both the gracefulness of Mrs. de Beauvoir Stocks and the power that lies within every aircraft she piloted. As we gaze upon this historic snapshot, we are reminded of Cheridah's courage and tenacity that paved the way for future female pilots worldwide. Her contribution to British aviation will forever be remembered as a testament to human ingenuity and perseverance against all odds.
