EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the magnificent St Paul's Cathedral in Mdina, Malta. Known as the oldest town on the island, Mdina holds a rich history dating back to its fortification by the Phoenicians around 1000 BC. Once home to the Roman Governors palace, this enchanting city was named Mdina by the Arabs when they ruled over Malta in c870, signifying its status as the capital. The focal point of this image is undoubtedly St Paul's Cathedral, an architectural masterpiece constructed between 1697 and 1702 by Maltese architect Lorenzo Gafa. Situated on the very spot where it is believed that St Paul met with Roman Governor Publius after being shipwrecked on Malta's coast, this cathedral holds immense religious significance. The photo also captures elements of daily life in Mdina during different centuries. A horse-drawn carriage known as a buggy traverses through a charming road lined with beautiful buildings from both the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The bell tower of St Paul's Cathedral majestically rises above them all while a clock adorns one side of its facade. With its vibrant colors and stunning architecture, this image encapsulates not only historical heritage but also represents Christian faith and spirituality embodied within these sacred walls. It serves as a testament to both Mdina's illustrious past and enduring religious devotion that has stood strong throughout time.
