EDITORS COMMENTS
This poignant print captures the last steps of Russian cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in the USSR on 23 April 1967. Vladimir Komarov, a pioneer in space exploration, was one of the first group of cosmonauts selected to participate in the Soviet space program in 1960. In an attempt to reach the Moon, he was chosen to pilot the Soyuz 1 spacecraft. Preserved within the State Museum of History in Moscow, this photograph serves as a reminder of both human triumph and devastating loss. It encapsulates not only Komarov's incredible courage but also highlights the risks inherent in pushing boundaries and exploring uncharted territories. Through this image, we are transported back to an era when space travel was still shrouded with uncertainty and danger. It stands as a testament to Vladimir Komarov's indomitable spirit and unwavering dedication to advancing mankind's understanding of our universe despite its tragic outcome.
