The Titanics Passengers Taking Their Last Look at Home, (April 20), 1912. Creator: Unknown

The Titanics Passengers Taking Their Last Look at Home, (April 20), 1912. A photograph taken as the boat was leaving Southampton on April 10th, showing, on the deck, some of the passengers who are probably among the missing. The White Star Line ship RMS Titanic struck an iceberg in thick fog off Newfoundland on 14 April 1912. She was the largest and most luxurious ocean liner of her time, and thought to be unsinkable. In the collision, five of her watertight compartments were compromised and she sank. Out of the 2228 people on board, only 705 survived. A major cause of the loss of life was the insufficient number of lifeboats she carried. Page 20, from " Titanic In Memoriam Number", a special supplement in " The Daily Graphic" newspaper issued following the sinking of the Titanic on 15 April 1912, published on 20 April 1912

The Titanics Passengers Taking Their Last Look at Home, (April 20), 1912

EDITORS COMMENTS
. This poignant photograph captures a moment frozen in time - the last glimpse of home for the passengers aboard the ill-fated RMS Titanic. Taken on April 10th, 1912, as the ship departed Southampton on its maiden voyage, this image showcases some of the individuals who would tragically become part of history's most infamous maritime disaster. The Titanic was a marvel of engineering and opulence, considered unsinkable by many. However, fate had other plans. On April 14th, in thick fog off Newfoundland, she struck an iceberg that compromised five watertight compartments. The unthinkable became reality as this majestic ocean liner succumbed to the icy depths. Out of the 2228 souls onboard that fateful night, only 705 would survive. One major factor contributing to such devastating loss was the insufficient number of lifeboats carried by the ship. Published in "The Daily Graphic" newspaper's special supplement titled "Titanic In Memoriam Number" this photograph serves as a haunting reminder of those lost at sea. It stands as a testament to both human resilience and tragedy. As we gaze upon these faces captured over a century ago, let us remember their stories and honor their memory. May this image serve as a solemn reminder that even grandeur can be humbled by nature's forces and remind us to cherish every fleeting moment we have with our loved ones before bidding farewell to our own homes.
