Earthwork Enclosure Long Barrow

EDITORS COMMENTS
This aerial photograph captures the mystique and ancient allure of Adams Grave, located on Walkers Hill in Alton Barnes, Wiltshire. The image showcases the impressive long barrow that has stood the test of time, evoking a sense of wonder about its origins and purpose. Dating back to prehistoric times, this remarkable burial mound known as Adams Grave is shrouded in mystery. Its elongated shape stretches across the landscape like a slumbering giant, commanding attention from all who gaze upon it. The intricate details of this sacred site are beautifully captured from above by photographer Damian Grady. Surrounding the long barrow are other fascinating features that add depth to its historical significance. A pillow mound lies nearby, hinting at possible connections with medieval rabbit farming practices. An enclosure can also be seen, possibly serving as an area for rituals or gatherings during ancient times. The presence of a cross dyke further adds intrigue to this already enigmatic location. These earthworks were often constructed for defensive purposes or territorial demarcation in centuries past. Damian Grady's skillful composition allows us to appreciate not only the scale and grandeur of Adams Grave but also its integration within the surrounding landscape. This photograph serves as a reminder of our rich cultural heritage and invites contemplation about those who came before us and their enduring legacy etched into these ancient grounds.
