Taken by photographer Katherine MacFee during her holiday in Holland, this image serves as a powerful reminder of the global impact of war. In 1914, despite remaining neutral, the Netherlands took proactive measures to protect their borders and prevent invasion. On August 1st, they swiftly mobilized their army and transported soldiers to strategic locations throughout the country. The composition exudes both tension and determination as rows of uniformed soldiers stand tall against a backdrop of historic architecture.
