EDITORS COMMENTS

This print takes us back in time to the bustling streets of Poole, Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole in 1942. The focus is on the exterior of two neighboring shops located at 96 & 96A High Street. On the left stands J&M Stone, a shop that exudes a remarkably futuristic vibe with its sleek design and modern architectural elements. Its clean lines and large windows hint at an era ahead of its time. In contrast, on the right side stands Barrie Ltd. , a more traditional establishment that embraces Georgian architecture. This juxtaposition between old and new creates an intriguing visual narrative within this single frame. The photograph beautifully captures the essence of everyday life during wartime Britain. Despite being taken during a challenging period in history, there is still a sense of resilience as people go about their daily routines amidst uncertainty. O Gs Crawford's skillful composition allows us to appreciate not only the unique character of these two shops but also offers glimpses into other aspects of street life from this era. The shop windows display various products while pedestrians pass by or stop to peer inside. This print serves as both a historical document preserving moments long gone and an art piece that invites us to reflect upon how our surroundings have evolved over time.
