This evocative aerial photograph, taken by Aerofilms Ltd in February 1953, captures the aftermath of the devastating floods that hit the coastal town of Felixstowe, Suffolk. The image reveals a scene of widespread flooding, with the North Sea encroaching upon the town's streets and buildings. At the heart of the photograph, Langer Road is submerged under several feet of water, its surface reflecting the grey, stormy sky above. The road, once bustling with traffic, now lies deserted and abandoned. The nearby gasometer, a prominent feature of Felixstowe's industrial landscape, stands tall and isolated, its silver tanks mirrored in the floodwaters. The maritime environment surrounding Felixstowe is also evident in the photograph.
