TRANSPORTER BRIDGE, Middlesbrough, Cleveland. This transporter bridge is one of only four in Britain. Built in 1911, a moveable platform was slung by cables from a steel frame and carried passengers and vehicles across the River Tees. This design was chosen to minimise disruption to shipping.
