1920s 1930s Horse Drawn Transport Medieval Picturesque Quaint Shop Timber Framed Building Traditional Tudor Delivery Trap

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the charming village of Lavenham in Babergh, Suffolk. The image captures a picturesque scene at the junction of Lady Street and Water Street, where a horse-drawn cart stands proudly. It is the 1920s or 1930s, an era when horse-drawn transport still played a significant role in daily life. On the left side of the photograph stands The Old Wool Hall, an impressive timber-framed building that served as a hub for wool trading during medieval times. Its grandeur is matched by the Tudor shops on the right side of the street, their jettied structures adding character to this historic setting. The delivery trap parked beside them suggests bustling activity and commerce taking place within these walls. This quaint corner showcases Lavenham's rich heritage with its traditional architecture and nods to its past as a prominent wool staple town. J Dixon Scott expertly captures this moment frozen in time, allowing us to appreciate both the architectural beauty and everyday life of this enchanting village. As we gaze upon this print from Historic England, we are transported back to an era where horses trotted along cobbled streets and timber-framed buildings stood tall against blue skies – truly capturing Lavenham's timeless charm.
