1910s People Public House Village

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a moment frozen in time on Aylesbury Road in Monks Risborough, Buckinghamshire. Looking south along the road, the image showcases the charming Nags Head public house with a man leisurely seated outside. Beyond the pub, rows of quaint houses create an idyllic village scene. However, this photograph tells a story of change and transformation. Since its capture in the 1910s, the Nags Head has sadly closed its doors as a pub and now serves as a residential property. The sign above the door proudly displays the name of George Calcraft, who once served as its landlord. Additionally, we catch a glimpse of history through the pub sign belonging to Welch Ale Brewery Ltd. Katherine MacFee's skillful lens not only documents architectural details but also preserves moments that would otherwise be lost to time. This print is more than just an image; it is a testament to our ever-evolving society and how places can transform over decades. As we gaze upon this snapshot from yesteryears, let us appreciate both what remains unchanged and what has been lost along our journey through history.
