EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of a bygone era, showcasing the stunning staircase at Lands End House in Charvil, Berkshire. Taken on 5 March 1935 by photographers Millar & Harris, this cellulose nitrate negative showcases their exceptional use of light and shade to create an expressionistic view of the staircase. Designed by renowned architect Guy Morgan for Frederick George Miles, an aircraft manufacturer, Lands End House was a masterpiece of modern architecture when it was built in 1935. The photographers skillfully captured the beauty and elegance of this curved rubber-clad staircase that was bathed in natural light from a full-height window at the front of the house.
