EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the timeless beauty of Marlow Bridge in Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. The image showcases a picturesque view looking east along the Thames River towards the magnificent suspension bridge and the charming parish church. Built between 1829 and 1832, Marlow Bridge stands as an architectural marvel from the Victorian era. The church seen in this photograph was rebuilt by C F Inwood between 1832 and 1835 on the site of a medieval church, adding to its historical significance. Its chancel was later constructed in 1875-6, while alterations were made to its spire and tower in 1898-9. These intricate details add depth to this remarkable scene frozen in time. Taken by renowned photographer Henry Taunt in 1885, this print transports viewers back to a bygone era when horse-drawn carriages traversed across Marlow Bridge. The image exudes tranquility as it encapsulates both natural beauty and architectural grandeur. As we gaze upon this stunning visual representation of history, we are reminded of our connection with those who came before us - their vision for progress intertwined with preserving tradition.
