CHELSEA AND WESTMINSTER HOSPITAL, FULHAM ROAD, KENSINGTON AND CHELSEA, GREATER LONDON. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and company walking through Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on the day of the official opening ceremony.
Laing Management Contracting worked on the construction of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on behalf of the North West Thames Regional Health Authority between 1989 and 1993. The new teaching hospital was built on the site of the old St Stephens Hospital, which was demolished in the early months of 1989. The use of fast track construction techniques enabled the entire project to be completed in less than 5 years, and the hospital was officially opened by the Queen on 13 May 1993

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a historic moment in the heart of London as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and her entourage stroll through Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on the day of its grand opening ceremony. The image showcases the elegance and grace of the royal procession, with Queen Elizabeth II at its center, radiating regal poise. The construction of this remarkable teaching hospital was undertaken by Laing Management Contracting between 1989 and 1993 on behalf of the North West Thames Regional Health Authority. Built upon the grounds where St Stephens Hospital once stood, which was demolished earlier that year, this new state-of-the-art facility stands as a testament to modern architecture and healthcare advancements. Utilizing innovative fast track construction techniques, this ambitious project was completed in an astonishingly short span of less than five years. Finally, on May 13th, 1993, amidst great anticipation and excitement, Her Majesty officially inaugurated Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. This photograph not only encapsulates a significant milestone for healthcare in Greater London but also immortalizes an iconic moment shared between royalty and progress. It serves as a reminder that even amidst grandeur and prestige, it is ultimately compassion for others' well-being that lies at the core of any noble endeavor.
