EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the completion of Section C of the iconic M6 Motorway, a significant milestone in the construction of the Birmingham to Preston Motorway. Taken near Trentham Park in Staffordshire, this image showcases a view looking south along the motorway, with the A519 passing beneath it and the access bridge to Trentham Park visible in the background. The construction work on this particular section began in June 1960 and was undertaken by John Laing Construction Ltd. , a renowned company known for their expertise in infrastructure projects. Spanning over 5 miles between Beech and Keele, Section C represents an impressive feat of engineering that would greatly enhance road connectivity and travel efficiency. In this snapshot from history, we witness not only a remarkable display of human ingenuity but also glimpses into transportation trends of that era. The presence of trucks and lorries on the motorway serves as a reminder of how vital these vehicles were during this time period for transporting goods across long distances. Preserved within Historic England's Archive, this print offers us an opportunity to reflect upon our progress as a society while appreciating both past achievements and future possibilities for further development.
