Installing sheet piling JLP01_08_083808
North Cotes, East Lindsey, Lincolnshire. Two cranes installing sheet piles at mean tide level during civil engineering work on the Northcoates pipeline.
The civil engineering work on the Northcoates oil pipeline was carried out by Laing Pipelines along with French companies Entrepose and GTM. Over two miles of 36 inch diameter pipeline, encased in concrete, was later pulled out to sea in the Humber Estuary. This photograph was published in May 1970 in the Laing monthly newsletter Team Spirit. EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a significant moment in the civil engineering history of North Cotes, East Lindsey, Lincolnshire. Against the backdrop of a serene waterscape, two cranes can be seen diligently installing sheet piles at mean tide level during the construction of the Northcoates pipeline. The project was a collaborative effort between Laing Pipelines and French companies Entrepose and GTM. The scale of this endeavor becomes apparent when considering that over two miles of 36-inch diameter pipeline, encased in concrete, would eventually be pulled out to sea in the Humber Estuary. This photograph, originally published in May 1970 as part of Laing's monthly newsletter Team Spirit, showcases not only the technical prowess involved but also highlights the coastal beauty surrounding this feat of engineering. As we gaze upon this snapshot from yesteryears, it serves as a reminder of human ingenuity and our ability to shape our environment for progress. It is an ode to those who worked tirelessly behind-the-scenes to bring about such monumental transformations while harmonizing with nature's elements. This image stands as a testament to both man's capability for innovation and his respect for the delicate balance between land and sea.
