EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the iconic Barclays House, located on Serpentine Road in Poole, Dorset. Serving as the headquarters for Barclays International, this impressive office building is captured from a stunning south-east perspective. Constructed by Laings South West Region, the project to build these new headquarters for Barclays Bank International commenced in September 1972 and was successfully completed in June 1975. The aim of this development was twofold: firstly, to decentralize some of London's offices to mitigate rising costs; and secondly, to generate employment opportunities within the local community. The architectural beauty of this office complex is evident in every detail captured by A© Historic England Archive. Its design embodies the essence of commercial excellence that prevailed during the 1970s era. This photograph not only immortalizes an important milestone in Poole's history but also symbolizes progress and growth. Barclays House stands tall as a testament to innovation and ambition while seamlessly blending into its natural surroundings. It represents more than just a bank; it represents economic prosperity and collaboration between industry leaders like Barclays Bank International and construction experts like Laings South West Region. As we gaze upon this remarkable image, we are reminded of how architecture can shape our landscape and contribute positively to both local communities and global enterprises alike.
