EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the exhilarating spirit of the running team JLP01_09_860863 at the 1986 Family Day held at Laing Sports Ground in Elstree, Barnet. In true Its a Knockout style competition fashion, this dynamic team is seen charging towards the camera with an effigy of a builder from the swinging dummy stage hanging on their right. The event was a tremendous success, attracting over 2500 people who came together to support The British Heart Foundation and raised an impressive £700 for this worthy cause. The day was filled with endless attractions and entertainment for all ages, including special appearances by Grange Hill cast members, bouncy castles, donkey rides, Punch and Judy shows, Pierre the Clown's antics, children's races, blindfold stunt driving performances as well as golf and six-a-side football tournaments. Amongst all these exciting activities were eight teams competing fiercely in the Its a knockout competition. Ultimately emerging victorious was a spirited team named The Floppies from the Information Services Department. This photograph not only encapsulates action-packed teamwork but also serves as a nostalgic reminder of 1980s recreation and sports culture. Preserved by A© Historic England Archive, it stands as a testament to community engagement and camaraderie during that era.
