The sports ground was laid out from 1920 and from 1923 was known as the Midland Bank Sports Ground. The pavilion was built in around 1920 but, due to bomb damage, it was largely reconstructed after the Second World War. The Hong Kong & Shanghai Bank Sports Ground, to the north, was merged with the Midland Bank's ground in 1990 and later the whole ground became the HSBC Sports Ground

Blue Club House Clubhouse Recreation Sport Sports Pavilion Tudorbethan
EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the magnificent Sports Pavilion of the HSBC Sports and Social Club in Beckenham, Bromley, Greater London. Standing proudly on Lennard Road, this iconic structure represents a rich history of sports and recreation. Originally laid out as a sports ground in 1920, it gained prominence from 1923 onwards when it became known as the Midland Bank Sports Ground. The pavilion itself was constructed around the same time but suffered significant damage during World War II. However, its resilience prevailed as it underwent extensive reconstruction post-war. Adjacent to the Hong Kong & Shanghai Bank Sports Ground to the north, these two grounds merged in 1990 to form what is now known as the HSBC Sports Ground. This consolidation brought together a vibrant community of athletes and enthusiasts alike. The Tudorbethan architecture of this clubhouse exudes an air of elegance and charm. Its striking blue facade adds a touch of vibrancy against its lush green surroundings. As you gaze upon this image, you can almost feel the energy and camaraderie that fills every corner of this historic venue. This print by Simon Inglis serves not only as a visual delight but also pays homage to an enduring symbol of sporting excellence within our local community.
