Aerator fountain PLA01_03_0343
Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex, Gatting Way, Uxbridge, Hillingdon, Greater London. The restored octagonal aerator fountain at the north end of the outdoor pool at the former Uxbridge Lido, soon after its re-opening as the Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Centre.
Uxbridge Lido was opened in 1935. It was designed in a Moderne style by George Percy Trentham. The pool was closed permanently in 1988. It was part of a £ 31 million redevelopment which saw it become the Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex, designed by Faulkner Brown and opened in March 2010. The lido and original buildings are listed Grade II, and is the second longest open air swimming pool in London at 220 foot long (the longest, Tooting Bec Lido, measures 300 foot)

Fountain Lido Modernist Outdoor Swimming Pool Restoration Sport And Recreation Sports Centre
EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the majestic aerator fountain at Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex in Uxbridge, Greater London. The restored octagonal fountain stands proudly at the north end of the outdoor pool, a testament to its rich history as part of the former Uxbridge Lido. Originally opened in 1935, Uxbridge Lido was an architectural gem designed in a striking Moderne style by George Percy Trentham. However, after closing permanently in 1988, it underwent a remarkable transformation as part of a £31 million redevelopment project led by Faulkner Brown. This ambitious endeavor resulted in the birth of Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex, which welcomed visitors once again in March 2010. Listed Grade II alongside its original buildings, this iconic lido boasts an impressive length of 220 feet – making it London's second longest open-air swimming pool (the crown held by Tooting Bec Lido with its measurement of 300 feet). The restoration efforts have breathed new life into this modernist masterpiece while preserving its historical significance. As you gaze upon this image, you can almost feel the echoes of laughter and splashing water that once filled these grounds. It serves as a reminder not only of our love for sport and recreation but also our commitment to preserving architectural treasures from yesteryears.
